Food and cooking: check cookable items before choosing a station

Windows public Demo · App 5248460 · sources checked October 12, 2026

The short answer

Look for the food item's cookable label, then use an available cooker and its displayed recipes. Raphael's current-demo account distinguishes a multicooker for those items from a workbench for furniture and homemade tools.

The developer names native ponic tubers, instant yams and tomato sauce as cooking examples. The checked sources do not give universal ingredient quantities, cooking times or a best-meal ranking.

Your next check

Item → station → prepared result

  1. 01Identify food and its cookable label
  2. 02Cooker for food; workbench for tools / furniture
  3. 03Follow the displayed recipe requirements
  4. 04Check the actual result; dirt is a separate need

A food-preparation check without guessed quantities

  1. Inspect the food you actually collected. Confirm its identity and whether your current demo marks it cookable.
  2. At an available cooker, compare the displayed recipe with that item. The developer describes multiple recipes from ponic tubers and heating pantry goods; it does not identify one mandatory recipe for all food.
  3. Gather only the missing ingredients or requirements shown by the current recipe. No fixed ingredient count or fuel requirement is supplied by the checked replies.
  4. Use the available cooking action when the displayed requirements are satisfied.
  5. Check that a prepared item or completed recipe result actually appears, then check its current item information before eating it.

If the item is not accepted or the recipe is unavailable, return to its label and station choice. Do not assume that a workbench can cook it, or that every pantry item uses the same process.

The brown-versus-red mushroom report has limits

Raphael says the tall brown mushrooms can be eaten but the small red ones cannot. This is a single October 11 player observation, without an item-name list, identification screenshot or controlled effects test.

Do not use colour alone as a universal safety rule for everything growing aboard the ship. If you cannot match the item to the reported type, use an identified food option instead of treating an uncertain visual resemblance as proof it is edible. The report does not establish cooking as a way to make the small red mushrooms safe.

A meal does not solve every falling status

Ordinary hunger, thirst and the reported extra dirt demand are separate checks. This cooking guide does not turn dirt into a normal meal, verify an infection cure or supply a treatment for the unresolved vomiting report.

If health keeps falling after you have eaten, look for Bleeding and other health warnings. If the limiting problem is reaching food safely, start with a short retraceable supply route.

Success here means choosing an appropriate food and station and seeing the preparation result in your current demo. A fixed healing percentage, guaranteed shelf life or best recipe requires evidence not present in these sources.
