Slowdown during a long run: the v47 memory issue and a safe reporting check
The v47.85ed patch includes performance updates, but still lists continually increasing memory usage as a known issue, DAVO-31. A demo that becomes worse over a long session therefore has a relevant official warning. That does not prove every low frame rate or slow-motion report has the same cause.
The practical next step is to check your installed demo, preserve progress through a functioning normal Save action and record when performance deteriorates. There is no verified launch option, configuration value or universal memory-leak repair in the checked notes.
Your next check
Compare the pattern before naming a cause
- 01Immediate slowdown or gradual long-session decline?
- 02Check the installed demo and v47.85ed notes
- 03Use a working normal Save before a normal exit
- 04Record memory/timing; DAVO-31 is still a known issue
On this page
Separate the two performance patterns
| Pattern | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| Starts reasonably, degrades as the run continues | Compare the session with the official memory-growth warning; the symptom alone does not prove its cause. |
| Slow motion immediately after starting | A current Steam topic reports this, but provides no tested solution. Do not automatically label it DAVO-31. |
| Only stutters in combat or one location | Record that specific condition; the patch does not identify a universal graphics preset for it. |
A bounded check that preserves useful evidence
- Confirm you are running Demo App 5248460 and check for an available normal Steam update. The relevant published reference is Demo Patch v47.85ed, October 13.
- Note whether the problem starts immediately or only after some play. Record an approximate session length without turning it into a claimed failure timer.
- If useful, observe the game's memory in Windows Task Manager before and after the slowdown. This is an ordinary diagnostic suggestion, not a developer benchmark or proof that all measured memory is leaked.
- While the menu still responds, use the normal Save action described in v47.85ed. Check the save and reload distinctions; a button press alone is not proof of a healthy restored world.
- If you stop the session, prefer the functioning normal exit. Record the outcome. Do not treat forced process termination as a safe-save method.
What a fresh session can and cannot show
If a normally saved and closed session runs better after reopening, that comparison is useful in a report. It is not an official fix for DAVO-31 and does not guarantee that the next long run remains stable.
A fresh session that is still slow points to a different pattern worth documenting. The checked material does not establish an exact RAM requirement for this demo, a compatible-driver fix, a recommended paging-file size or a launch flag. The parent store's tentative requirements are not a measured performance guarantee.
Report the pattern, not just “lag”
Include the installed version if displayed, operating system and hardware, session duration, location or activity, whether memory changed and whether the menu still responded. The official patch asks remaining v47 save/load issues to be reported in the developer Discord's demo-bug-reports section; the in-demo feedback route is also described in the launch announcement.
If the problem is falling through a vent or the plaza rather than slowdown, use the separate world-boundary warning. These are different known issues and should not be merged into one guessed repair.
