Cannot scroll nearby containers? A limited way to pick up floor items

Windows public Demo · sources checked October 16, 2026

The short answer

Players report that the nearby-container list cannot be scrolled when it becomes crowded. Timnuts describes the floor inventory being pushed below other containers and finding each item's visible sprite to right-click it instead. Apfelschorle confirms the scrolling limitation in the October 12 replies; Timnuts then says they wanted to check they were not missing a control.

There is no verified hidden scrolling shortcut or patch fix in those replies. The fallback is limited: it depends on being able to locate the actual object on the floor.

First identify the part of the inventory that is stuck

This report concerns the list of lootable containers around the character, including the floor entry. It is not a finding that the character's backpack is full, every item is unpickable or all inventory panels fail to scroll.

If you can open ordinary containers but cannot reach the floor entry below them, the report matches your situation more closely. If no interface responds at all, check the pause-menu and saving version notes instead of assuming the same cause.

Try the visible-object route

  1. Stop in a place where you can inspect the floor without an immediate fight.
  2. Look for the particular item's sprite near the character. Check the object you dropped or intended to collect, rather than assuming every mark is an item.
  3. Right-click that visible object and use its available pickup interaction. This is the route Timnuts describes using when the floor inventory is inaccessible.
  4. Check that the intended item actually appears in your inventory and that the floor object is gone. Selecting an unrelated container or merely opening a menu does not confirm pickup.

If a wall or furniture obscures the object, use the game's camera rotation to inspect it from another view. That visibility check is an editorial suggestion, not a proven repair for the list itself. Restore a familiar orientation afterward if rotation makes your route confusing.

If you still cannot identify the item

The reported workaround may be unusable when the sprite is concealed or indistinguishable. Do not promise a particular hotkey, mouse-wheel binding, controller gesture or console command: none is established by the checked thread.

Record the container list and the intended item's location when reporting the UI problem. Explain whether other containers remain usable. Do not delete a save, reinstall the game or edit scripts based solely on this symptom; those are not verified fixes.

As a planning precaution, keep an important dropped item in a spot you can visually recognize. This reduces the need to find it through a crowded list, but does not change the underlying demo UI.

What the current patch actually says

The October 13 v47.85ed notes fix a prolonged-gameplay pause-menu issue and add Save. They do not list a nearby-container scrolling fix. Check later notes for an explicit inventory change before treating this older limitation as resolved.

For orientation, use the camera and retraceable-route guide. If the item you need is a water container, the portable-water guide explains the separately observed Fill actions.
