Sustainable shivs: keep materials and check the crafting window

Windows public Demo · App 5248460 · sources checked October 12, 2026

The short answer

Keep leaves, bundles and ceramic, and inspect the crafting window as well as your backpack. A player who finished the demo reports that these materials made shivs a sustainable weapon supply, with ceramic found during a kitchen search.

Use the recipe and quantities displayed in your installed demo. A workbench broadens furniture/tool crafting; a cooker handles items marked cookable. These are different checks, not interchangeable crafting stations.

Your next check

Materials → recipe → correct interface

  1. 01Keep leaves, bundles and ceramic
  2. 02Inspect crafting window as well as backpack
  3. 03Follow the recipe shown in your demo
  4. 04Workbench: tools / furniture; cooker: cookable items

A repeatable shiv-supply check

  1. Inspect your backpack and the separate crafting window before discarding useful materials.
  2. Find the shiv recipe available in your current crafting UI and compare its material requirements with what you carry.
  3. Collect the missing material rather than assuming all three named supplies have the same availability. The source singles out ceramic as location-dependent.
  4. Craft when your displayed recipe is satisfied, then check that a usable shiv appears and can be equipped.
  5. If the recipe is absent or unavailable, inspect the station options below. The source does not justify inventing a recipe or material quantity.

Crafting window, workbench or cooker?

The developer says a few recipes are available from the inventory and more are available at crafting benches. Raphael's current demo reply distinguishes a workbench for furniture and homemade tools from a multicooker for items explicitly marked cookable.

  • Simple inventory recipe: check the crafting window first.
  • More furniture or tools: check an available workbench's recipe list.
  • A food item: check whether it is marked cookable before trying the cooker.

This is a way to choose the right interface, not proof that every listed item is craftable at every station.

Why carry replacements instead of chasing one weapon?

feetmusk's original problem was finding enough weapons to feel safe. ook describes sustainable shivs and says a chef's knife may do more damage, but explicitly calls that comparison uncertain and did not find one in their completed run.

Another responder favors crafted spears. Neither reply includes a damage table, durability test or controlled best-weapon comparison. For a practical supply plan, prioritize a recipe you can actually replenish.

The official demo announcement says the hotbar can equip up to three weapons. That is an equipped-slot limit; it does not confirm a universal inventory-space or stack-size rule. If already Dying, postpone another fight while you recover.

A kitchen is a search lead, not a guaranteed route

The reported kitchen search is useful for ceramic, but gives no coordinates, required door or fixed loot list. The official announcement says each attempt changes details such as growth, vents, medkits and water pipes.

Do not plan an entire run around a guaranteed ceramic drop, or treat the fixed ship-layout observation as a promise that every resource remains identical. We also do not recommend editing Lua values or cancelling consumables as a normal crafting strategy.
